Explore Musical Events So Exciting They’ll Have You Dancing All Night Long
New York City is widely considered one of the richest cultural centers in the country, and the borough of Brooklyn is no exception. With a vibrant history and recent renaissance as a hub for art, music, design, technology, and innovation, Brooklyn has much to offer its residents and visitors, including an impressive roster of concerts. Here is your guide to the must-see musical events this summer and fall in Brooklyn.
Celebrate Brooklyn!
Set in the impressive green space considered to be Brooklyn’s Central Park,
Celebrate Brooklyn! is a beloved annual outdoor concert series in Prospect Park. Starting in June and running through mid-August, Celebrate Brooklyn! serves as a celebration of the borough’s diversity and eclecticism, featuring an array of performances in the iconic Prospect Park Bandshell. This festival is the longest-running free outdoor performing arts festival, and this year’s lineup includes music from Patti Labelle and Father John Misty to DJ Nosaj Thing and Mac Demarco. With plenty of open space and shady areas, all you have to do is pull up a chair or lay out a blanket and enjoy!
SummerStage in Coney Island
Coney Island is a New York icon, especially in the summertime. But this year, there is more to check out than just the amusement park. Running for six shows throughout the summer, SummerStage is a free outdoor concert series in Coney Island, presenting a range of artists and genres from hip-hop and R&B to Carribean pop. Kicking off in June with an annual Carnival party from Caribbean band Kes the Band, SummerStage runs through August and includes performances from NY-based rising hip-hop stars TJ Porter, Jay Gwuapo, and Fetty Luciano, as well as New York's longest-running salsa band from Puerto Rico, La Sonora Ponceña.
Madonna
Closing out summer and kicking off fall in Fort Greene is none other than pop legend
Madonna. For three weeks between mid-September and early October, you can catch this musical icon in action as she celebrates the release of her Latin-inspired album Madame X in the special and intimate Brooklyn Academy of Music Howard Gilman Opera House.
The Chainsmokers
On October 17, popular American DJ duo
The Chainsmokers are coming to Brooklyn. Taking over Barclays Center with opening acts 5 Seconds of Summer and Lennon Stella, The Chainsmokers will show off their Grammy Award-winning and Billboard Chart-topping talents for one night in the heart of Brooklyn. If you’re looking for lively music and an overall fun night on the town, The Chainsmokers are a can’t-miss!
